SJ, the Swedish state railway company, is offering customers a payment option which uses an implanted NFC IC.
The chip has been implanted in 2000 of SJ’s customers’ hands.
The Swedes are keen on this sort of thing.
Swedish start-up Epicenter has had 150 of its employees implanted with NFC chips which give them access to the company’s offices.
In Sweden it is estimated that 20,000 people have had chip implants for a variety of purposes.
The chips can be tiny – the size of a grain of rice – and can be implanted by an injection.
