Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Business, Raf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (pictured) and West Midlands Mayor Andy Street attended an event in Coventry yesterday to promote the project.
The City is after getting some of the money announced by the government for electric car battery development.
Proposals will be made to government based on a plan for the National Battery Prototype Centre developed by Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).
The chairman of the CWLEP, Jonathan Browning, and the chairman of WMG, Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, were also at yesterday’s event.
The centre would become part of the Whitley South Technology Campus in Coventry, near Jaguar Land Rover’s current expansion.
