NAND revenue grew 8% Q2 on Q1, and is expected to increase in Q3.
“We expect supply to be under strain for the rest of 2017,” says DRAMeXChange’s Alan Chen, ‘relief will come later in 2018, when the manufacturing of 64- and 72-layer 3D-NAND Flash reaches maturity.”
Samsung’s Q2 NAND revenue was up 11.6% to $4.7 billion.
Hynix had a 0.7% decrease on a 6% bit shipment decline to $1.3 billion.
‘Toshiba’s investments to expand its 3D-NAND production capacity has been constrained by its cash flow problem,’ says DRAMeXchange. Its Q2 was up 0.5% to $2.32 billion.
Western Digital had an 8.6% sequential gain – and a 70% y-o-y gain to $2.3 billion and saw a 7% gain in enterprise-grade SSDs and a 14% growth in client-grade SSDs.
Micron’s also benefited from the rising demand for enterprise-grade SSDs and had. 20.8% increase in revenue to reach $1.7 billion.
Intel’s Q2 grew 0.9% to $870 million.
With the traditional strong demand in Q3, and continuing strong demand from data-centres for enterprise-grade SSDs, prices are expected to rise further.
