Rambus reported to be up for sale

Rambus shares have fallen 20% this year. The company has a market cap of $1.4 billion though, in 2000, it was valued at over $100 million.
It seemed the company’s fortunes were made when Intel adopted the interface for its processors but industry pressure and the increasing performance of the DDR interface meant thatb Intel offered both RDRAM and DDR.
Rambus claimed patents on DDR and sued most of the DRAM industry in a series of law-suits over many years. The results of the cases were mixed.
In 2015, Rambus moved away from being a pure IP provider and launched its own brand of server memory interface ICs.
Rambus was founded in 1990 by Mark Horowitz and Mike Farmwald and came up with the Rambus processor-DRAM interface calked RDRAM.
