Samsung and Hynix are slowing, or delaying, memory capacity expansion plans in the face of weakening ASPs, reports Digitimes.
Samsung has put on hold its plans to build additional capacity for 1ynm DRAM chips at its Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek fabs, says Digitimes. Samsung had planned to start building a 30k wpm expansion in Q3
Hynix has also delayed plans for adding NAND and DRAM capacity.
NAND went into oversupply in Q3 and ASPs are expected to fall 10-15% in Q3 and another 15% in Q4 with prices continuing to fall throughout H1 2019.
DRAM contract prices are showing signs of softening.
