Snapchat, the messaging app, is to sell its camera-equipped glasses in Europe.
After the demise of Google Glass it was thought people found the idea of glasses which record video and post it on-line were too intrusive to be popular.
Snapchat, now re-naming itself as simply ‘Snap’, thinks differently and is putting them on sale for £129.99 on its spectacles.com web-site and via a Snapbot vending machine at the London Eye.
“We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate,” says Snapchat “our products empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.”
Spectacles are sunglasses with a video camera which connects to Snapchat over Bluetooth or WiFi. The camera takes 10-second videos in a wide-angle circular format, storing what the wearer is seeing.
They are designed to record memories.
