Alibaba tops Taiwan patent filings

Alibaba filed for more Taiwan patents in Q3 than any other foreign company, says the island’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. It is the third quarter in a row that Alibaba has been the top patent applicant.
Second was Qualcomm with 135 applications and third was Intel with 110.
Applied Materials Inc was fourth with 108 applications, Tokyo Electron was fifth with 87 filings and Toshiba Memory Corp was sixth with 83 applications.
Oppo, the China handset maker, filed 81 applications – the first time it had applied for patents.
As for the locals, TSMC topped the list with 225 filings in Q3, followed by Hon Hai with 114 and AU Optronics with 99.
