Microsoft is expected to announce thousands of worldwide lay-offs this week as the management seeks to transition the company from developing software for PCs and servers to developing software for cloud services where Amazon is the dominant player.
The Microsoft strategy is to put big enterprise customers as the company’s first priority with SMEs second.
Microsoft commercial vp Judson Althoff says the re-org will “align the right resources for the right customer at the right time.”
Microsoft is having considerable success with Azure cloud services software. In Q2, Azure sales grew 93% on Q1. However it is a long way behind Amazon and Google is giving it intense competition,
