Samsung plans 2018 6nm foundry process and a 3D NAND ramp

Samsung is planning to have a 6nm process in volume production for its foundry business in H2 2019, reports Digitimes.
It is reported to have nine EUV machines on order from ASM pL for delivery this year and next.
It is thought that Samsung’s decision to bring forward the date for the 6nm process will help Samsung get orders from Qualcomm and Apple which are currently going to TSMC.
Samsung is also reported to have placed orders for March delivery for equipment for the second floor of its Pyeongtaek NAND fab. Pyeongtaek has two production floors on two storeys.
It is said that Samsung sees an opportunity, with rivals allegedly struggling with 3D NAND yield issues, to take an overwhelming lead in the NAND flash industry where it already commands a 36% market share.
TSMC says it has had 13 tape-outs on 7nm and plans to be in volume production on 7nm in 2018.
