Last year’s $17.5 billion acquisition of Alcatel’s networking business has helped Nokia to build the world’s fastest router.
In Q4, Nokia intends to launch a petabit-class router called the 7950 for the core network and the 7750 router for the edge of the network.
The 7750 delivers up to 4.8 terabits per slot.
The current fastest router on the market is sold by Jupiter Networks and delivers 3tb/s.
The routers are based on Nokia’s FP4 chip-set which operates at 2.4tb/sec.
The superior speeds allow the building in of better defences against DDoS attacks, says Nokia.
Nokia is now No.2 to Cisco in the router market having taken over the second place slot from Juniper.
