Samsung has started up production at its $13.5 billion fab in Pyeongtaek
Initial production is 70-80,000 wpm but Samsung emphasises that this is just the start and the fab’s capacity will be increased over the next two years.
Samsung calls it the world’s biggest fab which means it will have to top the 100k wpm mega-fabs of TSMC.
Samsung says it can see its way to 90-layer 3D NAND which will deliver a T-bit chip.
Ground was first broken for the fab in May 2015.
The first product is 64-layer, TLC, 2.5V 256Gbit 3D NAND.
