Samsung to invest $18bn in chips

Samsung says it will invest at least $18.6 billion in its chip business this year.
Samsung will also add a new line at its Xi’an China NAND fab.
Samsung is the world’s largest supplier of NAND chips with a 36% market share.
In Q2, according to Nomura Research, Samsung overtook Intel to become the world No.1 semiconductor company.
Intel’s forecast capex this year is $12 billion which is $2.4 billion more than last year.
$12.5 billion will go into its NAND fab in Pyeongtaek and $5.2 billion will go to its fab is Hwaseong.
Samsung will also add a new line at its Xi’an China NAND fab.
