Microchip has added 16kbyte flash options to its ATtiny AVR microcontroller family and, despite the extra flash, the devices are pin and code compatible with the recently released ATtiny817 series of MCUs, according to the firm.
“There is more growth and innovation in the AVR MCU portfolio now than at any point in the past decade,” said Microchip v-p of 8bit Steve Drehobl. “Microchip is committed to continue the AVR MCU family of products.”
Microchip ATtiny1617Called the ATtiny1617 series, they also have 256bytes of eeprom and 2kbyte ram in 14, 20, and 24pin packages.
“The devices contain key features of other tinyAVR MCUs including the ‘event system controller’, which allows peripherals to communicate without using the CPU and enables designers to customise the configuration of the MCU for their specific application,” said Microchip.
A capacitive touch peripheral is included.
“The integrated ‘touch peripheral touch controller’ helps to simplify the development of capacitive touch systems offering touch interfaces with proximity sensing and a driven shield,” said distributor Mouser, which is stocking the part.
Other integrated features include: a 20MHz internal oscillator, serial communication with USART, SPI, and I2C, configurable custom logic blocks, 10bit ADC with voltage reference, 8bit DAC and PWMs.
Operation is from 1.8 to 5.5V, with sleep current down to 100nA.
The parts are:
ATtiny1617 – 24 pin – QFN24
ATtiny1616 – 20 pin – QFN20 and SOIC20
ATtiny1614 – 14 pin – SOIC14
All members of the family are supported by Start, Atmel’s on-line graphical tool for configuring embedded software projects.
They are also supported by the Atmel Studio 7 integrated development environment (IDE) and the STK600 development board.
According to Mouser, applications foreseen include: LED lighting, motor control, H-bridges, and power converters.
