National Instruments has introduced a remote control module for laptop control of PXI systems using Thunderbolt 3.
National Instruments has introduced a remote control module for laptop control of PXI systems using Thunderbolt 3.
The PXIe-8301 offers PCI Express Gen 3 connectivity through two Thunderbolt 3 ports this will support up to 2.3 Gbyte/s of data throughput.
The second port can be used to daisy chain additional Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C devices.
The Thunderbolt hardware interface was developed by Apple and Intel for connecting computer peripherals.
Version 3 is based on the USB Type-C interface and combines PCI Express (PCIe) and DisplayPort (DP) into two serial signals along with DC power in a single cable.
Mark Wetzel, from NI and technical chair of PXI Systems Alliance, writes:
“The introduction of a remote control module using Thunderbolt 3 demonstrates the continued ability of the PXI platform to incorporate the latest commercial technologies and further its reach into high-performance, low-cost and ultraportable applications.”
The PXIe-8301remote control modules are likely to become an important part of the firm’s PXI platform and ecosystem which are used to build automated test systems.
