A coming golden age for semiconductors is forecast by Sanjay Jha, CEO of Globalfoundries, reports Digitimes.
That will be met by GloFo’s 7nm finfet process aimed at mobile processors, cloud servers and networking infrastructure due to launch in H1 2018 with volume production in H2.
New iterations of the 7nm process will come online in 2019 and 2020.
Additionally, GloFo is building a 12-inch fab in Chengdu, China, Jha which is scheduled to begin production of in 2018 with a 22nm FD-SOI process.
With IBM and Samsung, GloFo has co-developed a prototype IC using 5nm nanosheet transistors.
The next decade will see robust IC demand from datacentres and AI, says Jha.
