Yangtze River Storage Technology (YMTC) – the Tsinghua Unigroup-owned memory initiative – says it has developed a 32-layer 3D NAND chip and intends to start production in Q2 2018 at a rate of 5K wpm, reports Digitimes.
YMTC is China’s only 3D NAND player. China’s other memory start-ups – Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit teamed with UMC, and Hefei Ruili Integrated Circuit teamedp with GigaDevice Semiconductor – intend to make DRAM.
YMTC is now said to be focusing on 64-layer NAND. NAND leaders Samsung, Hynix and Micron are currently developing 72-layer NAND.
